Compensation: $130,000 to $150,000 + profit sharing bonus

Education / Certifications: Bachelor’s degree in accounting or finance required.

Required Experience:

  • 5-10 years of accounting experience.
  • Previous management experience.
  • Ability to work with large amounts of data.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office programs.

Preferred Experience:

  • CPA or MBA preferred.
  • Previous accounting experience within a related industry to construction.

 Job Description:

The Controller will be expected to provide financial and business insight to facilitate effective strategic financial decisions. Responsible for assisting in the development of financial plans and policies.

PRINCIPAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Supports period-end close process, the general ledger, and review of monthly balance sheet reconciliations.
  • Works with the Operations and Accounting Teams to close the books and provide accurate & timely financial information to the executive leaders of the business.
  • Identifies opportunities to streamline financial processes, improve efficiency, and enhance financial reporting accuracy.
  • Assists with the analysis and interpretation of statistical and accounting information to appraise operating results in terms of profitability, performance against budget, and other matters bearing on the fiscal soundness and operating effectiveness of the organization.
  • Assists with the maintenance of the company's system of accounts and keeps books and records on all company transactions and assets.
  • Furnishes internal reports, revise and update reports to be more useful and efficient and furnishes external reports as necessary.
  • Assists with year-end external audits and tax preparation.
  • Understands new accounting standards, assesses the implications, if any, for the company, and implements adoption as appropriate.
  • Assists with new process and control implementations.
  • Prepares month-end journal entries and assesses reasonableness of information.
  • Reviews month-end journal entries prepared by Staff and Senior Accountants.
  • Cash management and ad hoc reporting as necessary.
  • Trains, mentors, and supervises assigned Senior and Staff Accountants.

QUALIFICATIONS & REQUIREMENTS

  • 5+ years of accounting experience.
  • Ability to work with large amounts of data.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office programs.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills to interact with management and internal staff.
  • Ability to take ownership and be accountable for issue resolution.
  • Must present a highly professional image and attitude.  Highly organized, detail orientated and capable of multi-tasking.
  • Self-motivated individual with great initiative and ability to work independently.
  • Strong work ethic and the ability to meet deadlines.
  • Strong analytical skills and attention to detail.
  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting or finance required. CPA or MBA preferred.
