The Field Applications Engineer is responsible for technical support to customer's PCB design and manufacturing groups. This position will support design activities tied to our strategic product lines of - rigid, rigid flex, RF, HDI, &/or value add products with Aerospace and Defense OEMs. Individual will be responsible for feedback on routing, pad lay out techniques, offer trade-off analysis of PCB stack-ups, material selection, reliability, signal integrity and overall manufacturability requirements based on the customers’ end use application.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Provide DFM (Design for Manufacturing) and DFV (Design for Value) support to customer engineering and design teams for new designs and existing design improvement
  • Support drawing reviews prior to design release and help architect drawing notes to support the specific design and manufacturing needs
  • Implement industry specification (IPC) requirements as well as customer developed specifications requirements
  •  Facilitate disposition of technical queries between our pre-production engineering groups and the customer
  • Update customer design and manufacturing groups on our capabilities and technology road map through formal presentations
  • Provide the manufacturing facilities insight into future customer needs, technology requirements and identify gaps in our ability to support those future needs
  • Assist and coordinate with our pre-production to create controlled impedance stack-ups
  • Assist the Sales Account Managers in increasing customer revenue by providing technical support and service
  • Travel to and visit customer sights to support technical discussions, issues, and key programs as required.
  • Create and conduct technical capability presentations in conjunction with the sales team
  • This position will interface regularly with our Sales, Development, Pre-Production Engineering departments, and Operations, and it is essential that the employee be able to effectively balance the communication channels between these departments

Essential Skills and Knowledge:

  • Develop a thorough understanding of our manufacturing and design capabilities and value add offerings to support QTA/NPI/Production Manufacturing
  • Ability to establish contacts and build relationships with customers to drive improved communication and partnership
  • Ability to make routine decisions with general direction provided by department manager
  • Strong written and oral communication skills and the ability to work well with customers design groups
  • Strong engineering background and knowledge of entire PCB manufacturing process including; process flows, individual processing steps, and pre-production tooling
  • Self-motivated and willing to work with minimum supervision
  • Effective public speaking and presentation skills

Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor Degree in Engineering or related discipline preferred
  • 5+ years of experience in engineering activities related to PCB industry
  • Intermediate level skills using Genesis STAR software, drawing / blueprint interpretation skills, and use of PCB stack-up tools
  • Proficient with Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Microsoft Project
  • Travel for customer visits and our North American sites required up to 40% of the time
