Job location: Can be done remotely but preference on candidates living in the following markets: Denver, CO; Portland, OR; San Francisco, CA; Seattle, WA;  Syracuse, NY;  Asheville, NC;  Tacoma, WA:  Birmingham, AL

Travel: Minimal but expected to attend conferences, site visits and project meetings. No significant field work planned.

Annual bonus paid out annually in Q1 that has paid out for the past 24 years.

Education / Certifications:  Bachelor’s Degree will be in either Geology, Environmental Engineering, Civil Engineering, Hydrogeology, or Geochemistry. Master’s Degree required as well

Required Experience: 10+ years’ experience in groundwater modeling, must be technical expert in groundwater. Must have be a P.E. (Professional Engineer) or P.G. (Professional Geologist)

Preferred Experience: Ph.D, Geochemistry experience

What’s the Opportunity?

We are seeking a managing/senior level scientist or engineer to oversee modeling, quantitative hydrogeology, geochemistry and fate and transport work for a variety of environmental and restoration projects nationwide.

Responsibilities:

  • Lead and/or perform modeling work for a wide variety of projects involving groundwater flow, contaminant fate and transport, and groundwater/surface water interactions
  • Mentor junior and mid-level scientists and engineers in groundwater modeling, environmental hydrogeology and contaminant fate and transport
  • Evaluate field data that influence chemical fate and transport in groundwater, including analysis of hydraulic field test results; environmental sampling results; soil, sediment and rock physical characteristics
  • Interpret and quantify groundwater flow, porewater discharge in sediment, and the fate and transport of dissolved-phase constituents under the influence of groundwater/surface water interactions

What Are We Looking For? 

Ideal candidates will have the following:

  • Master’s level or Ph.D. degree, with a PG or PE
  • At least 10 years of experience
  • Excellent written communication skills
  • Strong groundwater modeling expertise, including flow, biogeochemical reactive transport of organic and inorganic constituents, and simulation of remedial alternatives – experience with multiple of the following codes: MODFLOW/MODPATH, MT3DMS, RT3D, PHREEQC, PHT3D, PHAST, PEST and common graphical user interfaces (GW Vistas, etc.)
  • Experience in field data collection supporting environmental site characterization and remediation projects
  • Familiarity with PFAS issues in groundwater, including fate and transport and remedial alternatives
  • Experience with NAPL site assessment and remediation, including NAPL mobility and dissolution principles
  • In-depth understanding of biogeochemical processes and interactions in soil and sediment environments
  • Experience with Python programming (familiarity with other structured programming language such and FORTRAN or C# is a plus)
