Job title: Senior Environmental Planner

Job location: Orange County, CA; Long Beach, CA; San Diego, CA

Compensation: $82,000 to $120,000 + bonus (Candidates salary will directly correlate with candidate's experience)

Work week: Salaried – Monday through Friday; hybrid & remote options available (but must live in the Long Beach/San Diego areas)

Travel: Meet with clients 1-2x per month Must live in the southern part of California to effectively make it to office/meeting with clients.

Annual bonus paid out annually in Q1 that has paid out for the past 25 years.

Education / Certifications: Bachelor of Science degree in environmental management, environmental policy, fish or wildlife biology, ecology, natural resources management, environmental science, or related discipline.

Required Experience: 5+ years’ experience in the field. Regulatory/Environmental permitting experience. (California Coastal Commission (CCC), Regional Water Quality Control Board (RWQWB), Army Core of Engineers (USACE)

Preferred Experience: NEPA and/or CEQA compliance experience, wetland science, regulatory knowledge, NPDES permitting/compliance, environmental impact reports, biological assessment author, previous client facing experience, project management experience

What’s the Opportunity?

We are seeking a full-time Senior Environmental Planner/Regulatory Specialist for one of our offices in southern California (Irvine, Long Beach). The position may also require some travel to participate in client meetings, public meetings, stakeholder work groups, or site visits. The Senior Environmental Planner will have more than 5 years of experience performing environmental review and collaborative science- and policy-based planning for a variety of natural and built resource projects. This includes demonstrated experience conducting regulatory and ecological analyses in support of federal and/or state environmental policy acts (NEPA/CEQA); preparing permit applications and other technical documents in support of federal, state, and local environmental regulations; developing and reviewing documents, status reports, and deliverables; and completing quality control review of documents. We are interested in a candidate who is a quick learner, detail-orientated, and a committed team player who possesses strong written and verbal communication skills.


  • The ideal candidate will have a bachelor’s degree and 5+ years of experience in environmental permitting and biology. Skills include:
  • Developing and implementing environmental compliance strategies and preparing documentation related to compliance with federal, state, and local environmental permitting
  • Experience with implementing and negotiating mitigation requirements, review of project design plans and evaluation of in-water impacts evaluation
  • Managing tasks or projects, including overseeing small project or field teams
  • Developing and managing scopes, schedules, budgets
  • Interfacing with clients, agencies, other consultants, and the public
