Work Setting: Monday through Friday, after onboarding they can join the hybrid work setting.

Travel: Yes, 10% to 25% international and domestic based upon project demands.

Compensation: $115,000 to $150,000 Salary.

Education / Certifications: Bachelor of Science Degree in Chemical Engineering desired but will accept candidates with other Engineering degrees.

Required Experience:

· 10+ years’ professional experience
· Piping Design / P&ID experience
· Experience with Mass Balances/Material Balances
· Previous leadership/team lead experience

Preferred Experience:

· Experience with AspenPlus
· Process Hazard Analysis (PHA) exposure
· HAZOP exposure

Job Summary:  Provide process design associated with direct reduction plants as well as other new technology initiatives.  Provided support to process engineers.

 Supervisory Responsibilities:

 Senior Process Engineers do not have direct reports but may assign work to other engineers and designers.  Senior engineers act as process discipline leads providing technical support for various projects and initiatives.

 Duties/Responsibilities:

  • Work as a team player with company employees on assignments. Work toward building consensus on  assignments by finding solutions which meet the best interests of all parties involved.
  • Develop process flow diagrams (PFD’s).
  • Develop gas, water, and solids mass and energy balances.
  • Develop Piping & Instrumentation Diagrams (P&ID’s) and oversee their issue.
  • Develop equipment and line list and oversee their issue.
  • Develop duty specifications for equipment.
  • Assign process data for control valves and instrumentation.
  • Perform and document process calculations, develop standard calculation methods, and check calculations by other process engineers.
  • Develop new in-house software calculations when needed.
  • Serve as Lead Process Engineer for a project. As required, take direction from project management or other Chief Engineers.
  • Review vendor documents and documents from other disciplines.
  • Contribute to the preparation of plant operating instructions.
  • Review logic diagrams prepared by E&I department.
  • For new systems and processes, develop logic diagrams in coordination with E&I department and other disciplines.
  • Evaluate existing and new process designs, keeping safety in mind.
  • Participate in Process Hazards Analysis (PHA) reviews.  Lead PHA reviews (if trained).
  • Participate in client training (phase 1 training).
  • Participate in plant start-ups and plant troubleshooting.
  • Assist with proposal preparation when needed.
  • Perform engineering man-hour estimates.

Skills/Abilities: 

Required:

  • Proficient computer skills including use of Autodesk and Microsoft products.
  • Excellent base of chemical engineering technical skills and knowledge of processes.
  • Ability to meet schedule and deliverable deadlines.
  • Excellent technical writing and interpersonal skills.
  • Willingness and ability to travel domestically and internationally, sometimes for long continuous periods.

Preferred:

  • Experience with chemical process simulators (e.g. Aspen Plus).
  • Process Hazard Analysis (PHA) or HAZOP facilitator certification.
  • Professional Engineer registration.
  • Industrial plant experience
  • International travel experience.

Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor of Science Degree in Chemical Engineering.  
  • Minimum ten (10) years’ experience in a technical or industrial environment, preferably related to steel industry or seven (7) years’ experience in the Direct Reduction industry.
